Science Take-Out has been awarded a 1-year grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (part of the National Institutes of Health) to create new kits that focus on topics in environmental health sciences. The Science Take-Out team will work with researchers from the University of Rochester’s Environmental Health Sciences Center who have created numerous education and outreach initiatives for students, teachers, and the general public. This collaborative project will develop six new hands-on Science Take-Out kits on topics in environmental health science (EHS) that can easily be introduced into science teachers’ existing curricula and can be implemented in diverse types of educational settings, including school-based settings and community-based science outreach programs. These new kits will combine the ease-of-use features common to all Science Take-Out kits with activities that engage students in learning important concepts in EHS such: as dose-response relationships; effects of environmental agents on body systems and biological processes; changes in susceptibility to environmental agents at different life stages, and; prevention of environmental exposures.
