About Ecology

Ecology is a branch of biology that focuses on the distribution and patterns of various organisms while studying the causes and effects of this distribution. It can be divided into many sub-topics, including biodiversity, distribution, biomass, populations of organisms, and even the competition/cooperation of species. By studying ecology, we’re able to learn more about the dynamic interactions of ecosystems and the various communities that comprise them. Ecology aims to teach us more about life processes and interactions, the way resources and energy move in living communities, as well provide insight into the ways new ecosystems develop. By knowing this information, we’re able to better understand how certain environments self-regulate.

About Environmental Science

Environmental science is a field of study that incorporates physical science, biological science, and information science in order to study the environment and come up with solutions to environmental problems. It can include a wide range of sub-topics, including chemistry, plant science, zoology, mineralogy, oceanography, soil science, geology, and more. By studying environmental science, we’re able to better understand Earth processes, energy systems, pollution, natural resource management, and even the effects of global climate change on the planet. This information helps us understand how we can treat the Earth better and create a healthier future for our planet and everything on it.

Environmental Science & Ecology in the Classroom

The three main research methods involved in Environmental Science & Ecology are observation, modeling, and experimentation. Because this topic usually relates to the natural world, observation is sometimes hard to simulate in a classroom setting. Thankfully, Science Take-Out makes it easy for students to engage in hands-on, minds-on learning with ecology and environmental science labs and kits. Through the use of modeling, students are able to create representations of real-life situations to come to their own conclusions. From simulating pesticide and water safety to learning about cancers and genetics, Science Take-Out’s environmental science labs allow students to apply scientific principles – and have fun doing it!

Science Take-Out kits also relate closely to Next Generation Science Standards, allowing educators to be sure that they are delivering on science and engineering practices, disciplinary core ideas, and cross cutting concepts. Students are set to learn about analyzing and interpreting data, improve their information processing skills, and study cause and effect relationships in these engaging environmental science labs.
